    Rotary Family conducts health day camp at Nyalakot health centre 11, Oriyoi village – Tororo District

    The Rotary Club of Bweyogerere Namboole in partnership with the Rotary Club of Tororo Sam Owori held a Rotary Family Health Day Camp with the community of Nyalakot Health Centre II, Oriyoi Village in Tororo District.

    Over 800 people were treated and given free medication.

    The activities offered during the camp included; General health, Dental Checkups , Nutritional health awareness and training, Hypertension testing, Cervical Cancer Testing, TB Screening, Malaria Testing, HIV testing, Family Planning and Reproductive Health among other activities.

    The Rotary Club of Tororo Sam Owori and Bweyogerere Namboole also undertook clinic talks with teenage mothers on how to keep themselves healthy during and after pregnancy.

    Rtn George Ochom –Rotary Club  Bweyogerere Namboole noted that the Rotary Family Health Camps are Rotary effort to supplement government health services outreach to the communities and in the process give a chance to Rotary to identify many other community needs and gaps that they can close through structuring subsequent projects and   are meant to achieve community entry that is to introduce Rotary and the works of Rotary in the community, enabling Community engagement with political, opinion leaders and elders of the community and as well successful Rotary Family Health Day activities ,results in solutions such as empowering health workers and capacity building, equipping health facilities, lobbying and advocating for the community which in the end attract global grant projects with bigger budgets and impacts.

    He further noted that Rotary Family Health Days camps is an annual Rotary District project that is supported by a joint District Global grant that enables clubs to get some of the medical requirements like drugs and ancillaries.

    Rtn Dr .Onyanyo Jagire- Rotary Club of Tororo Sam Owori also advised that community needs and expectations should be identified as guided by Rotary’s 7 areas of focus prior to the health camps. And encouraged clubs to carry out health education campaigns rather than treatment and dissemination of drugs.

    He encouraged the residents in Oriyoi village Tororo to consider having a healthy lifestyle, doing regular check ups, going for mandatory vaccination and exercising in order to remain fit.
