Police at Kibiri Busabala have carried out an operation on bars and hangout spots which play loud music and arrested seven people, among whom are proprietors of the establishments.
The operation followed a public outcry on the deafening sound coming from the bars in the wee hours of the night when people are resting.
This was backed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police’s directive that territorial Police should work hand in hand with the Environment Police to curb noise pollution.
KMP Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire revealed in a statement on Thursday that the suspects are currently detained at Katwe Police station.
“Before their arrest, the police and community had several times made complaints and warning towards the noise coming out of their establishments,” he said.
Owoyesigire further warned members of the public to be mindful of their neighbours only use the required decibels in residential areas.
“The Police has also been informed through Community liaison officers to at all times move around communities and hold Community engagement meetings on noise pollution,” Owoyesigire said.
