

The fifth edition of the University beach soccer championship that got underway at Lido Beach on Saturday saw Nakawa based Makerere University Business school ((MUBS) go top in group A on match day one. MUBS beat International University of East Africa (IUEA) 6-1 in their opening match and earned two other victories after they edged YMCA 3-2 and Bishop Stuart University 3-1 in the other group matches. The goals for MUBS came from Kawawulo Isma and Bugembe Martin who netted a total of four goals each while Frank Bomboka scored a total of five goals.
Kampala International University (KIU) clinched a comfortable victory after they demolished Mbarara based Bishop Stuart University 7-4 and International University of East Africa (IUEA) 6-5. YMCA beat Bishop Stuart University 4-2.
Elsewhere in Group B high flying St. Lawrence University thumped Nkumba University 6-3 and Busoga University 6-4. Nkuubi Brian netted a total of six goals, Mbidde Pius netted two goals while Owori David, Rwezawula Phillip, Ochero Sulaiman and Semogerere Timothy each netted a goal apiece. Muteesa I Royal University edged Busoga University 8-2. Rulinda Julius netted a hat trick and a brace while Kimera Primo, Magumba Samuel and Kato Paul netted one goal each. Meanwhile Nkumba University walloped Muteesa I Royal University 6-1 in the other group match. Somoka Roch netted a hat trick while Kikonyongo Jonathan netted a brace and Openjo Kocus scored the single goal.
Group matches resume today with four matches in Group A; Busoga University will take on International University of East Africa (IUEA), YMCA will take on IUEA, MUBS will take on KIU and will complete the group games with a match against Busoga University.
In group B, St.Lawrence will take on Muteesa I Royal University while Nkumba University will host Busoga University.
