Police in Lamwo on Friday arrested one Catherine Akello, a 34-year-old health worker at Lukungu Health Center III who is alleged to have defiled a patient in her care.
Akello is said to have committed the crime last year and has been on the run ever since.
She was picked up by police at Lamwo District Headquarters where she had turned up for a workshop.
Police says on October 12th last year, between 7: 30 and 8pm, while at Lukungu Health Center III Staff Quarters, the suspect took a 15-year-old patient to the bathroom where she allegedly defiled him.
Area police spokesman David Ongom Mudong confirmed this report saying that the case was registered under SD ref 04/12/10/2021
Ongom says the victim’s mother was the one who caught the nurse pants down, after she realised that her son took long in the bathroom, forcing her to go and check.
In the scuffle that ensued, Ms Akello was able to escape from the scene.
Ongom says a case of defilement was opened up and statements recorded from the victim, his mother and other witnesses, and medical examination was also conducted on the victim as the hunt for the suspect kicked.
The police spokesman says Akello will first be subjected to medical examination through the police regional Surgeon to ascertain her health status.
After her charge and caution statement is recorded, the file shall be submitted to RSA for perusal and legal advice.
