The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party member Godfrey Bwandinga emerged victorious in the hotly contested Entebbe Municipality Development Forum Presidential polls that were held on Tuesday at Lake Victoria School. Bwandinga, whose victory came as a surprise beat favourite Wandera Mangeni Lovi aka Wanjoki to scoop the MDF top Job with a total of 10 votes. Andrew Otage finished in second place with 09 votes while Rhoda Bazira finished in third place with 04 votes and Wanjoki only garnered 01 vote.
Godfrey Bwandinga takes over from Pros Vikman as President while Rhoda Bazira takes over from Elvis Sewakambo as Vice President and will serve for two terms.
In his victory speech, Bwandinga thanked the outgoing team for the excellent job done and emphasized the need for team work and cooperation among the newly elected MDF Executive committee members.
Town Clerk Charles Magumba who postponed the elections from August 25, 2017 to September 5, 2017, indicated that Municipal Council has set aside a budget that will enhance in the effective execution of MDF activities to avoid depending on donor funds.
David Kasimbazi, the Urban Planning Ministry official who presided over the elections, thanked the Entebbe community for turning up in big numbers and warned the newly elected committee executive members that MDF is all about doing voluntary work for the betterment of Entebbe Municipality.
Elvis Sewakambo, also a top favorite for the MDF top Job lost miserably in the business sector Electoral College voting process. Wanjoki polled 23 votes while Birunji Jassy polled 14 votes. Elvis Ssewakambo polled just 09 votes.
Elvis Ssewakambo who right from the start of the campaigns knew that he would sail through comfortably to the MDF Presidency had his hopes quashed after urban planning ministry official David Kasimbazi opened the Electoral College voting process to all Entebbe residents who were present in their respective sectors.
“Elvis Ssewakambo got letters from Town Clerk Charles Magumba’s office inviting all participants to turn up for the elections but Ssewakambo distributed the letters to his cronies and buddies who assured him of support. Other aspiring candidates Wanjoki, Mugabi Gracious and Godfrey Bwandinga didn’t receive any letters and raised several complaints about the transparency of the voting process,” a source revealed.
