Rowdy Nkumba and Makerere university football fans on Saturday clashed bitterly at a football match that was held at Nkumba University football pitch. Nkumba University was taking on Makerere University in the University league match that ended 2-0 in favour of Nkumba University.
According to a source that was present during the football match told entebbenews that after Nkumba university scored the second goal in the last dying minutes of the match, Makerere University football fans turned rowdy and armed with sticks they began beating any Nkumba University student that crossed their eyes.
To defend themselves from the rowdy Makerere University football fans, Nkumba University football fans also began throwing stones, it is from this melee that was extended to the road and resulted in many other pedestrians and motor vehicles being caught in the midst of the riot and this is when Mpala Police officers swung in action with rubber bullets and tear gas after the entire road had been turned into a chaotic scene.
A source who spoke to entebbenews on condition of anonymity revealed that Nkumba University football fans were revenging against Makerere University football fans who thoroughly beat them when they were playing there away game with Makerere University FC that was held at Makerere, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
“There is nothing serious that is making Nkumba and Makerere University football fans, they are just being rowdy” a source told entebbenews.
Armed with teargas and rubber bullets police managed to calm down the tensions and Makerere University football fans were whisked away after Nkumba University football fans outnumbered them.
