The 2015 Uganda Golf Union Calendar came to a grand climax on Saturday with over 109 players participating in the Annual Danny Nkata memorial/ Grand Mug of Mugs tourney. Playing Handicap 22 William Mutyaba carded 69 Nett to emerge winner of the Nkata Memorial tourney. Muhamad Jezan returned 70 Nett to finish as overall winner of the December Monthly mug.
In the best of Mug of Mugs series tourney Allan Muhereza was overall winner with 884 Nett. He also topped Group A (Handicap 0-9) with 72 Nett. Daniel Opwonya and Michael Monne finished as first runners and second runners up with 933 and 948 Nett respectively.
Muhereza bragged to entebbenews about his success this year.
I’ve had a very good round of golf this year and specifically I’ve performed extremely well in the mug of mugs series. I’ve won 11 mugs out of the 12 mug of mugs tourneys, I only lost the October mug of mugs tourney. Muhereza said.
Other Winners:
Twinemanzi Tumubweine was Group B Winner with 71 Nett while Aaron Eccel finished top in Group C (Handicap 19-28) with 75 Nett.
In the ladies category Irene Nakalembe topped Group A (Handicap 0-18) with 76 Nett while Muraya Nancy was Group B Winner (Handicap 19-36) with 79 Nett, she beat Rhoda Tumusiime on count back who finished as runners up.
Uganda Golf Union President Bows Out:
Uganda Golf Union President Kiryowa Kiwanuka officially bowed out after serving for two years. His vice president Johnson Omollo takes over from him as President.
Kiryowa congratulated the Uganda National Golf Team for winning the East African Golf Challenge both in 2014 and 2015 and the Zone VI Africa Golf Championship.
The Golf National Team has done extremely well having won the East Africa Golf Challenge in 2014 and 2015 and the Zone VI. This wasn’t sheer luck, it wasn’t good preparation that enabled Uganda shine. he stated.
He added:
Uganda is no longer a participant, it is now the team to beat and I would like to urge you all Golfers to continuously support the team. We introduced a culture of playing qualifiers and it is my humble appeal that the culture continues.
