The Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Rose Tumusiime has started a vigorous sanitary pads promotion campaign to save poor girls who are dropping out of school because they cannot afford the expensive pads. The two day training session that concluded on Saturday at Lake Victoria School attracted several women who acquired skills in making and using the local sanitary pads and are expected to train their fellow women and girls in their respective villages. Hon. Tumusiime revealed that with the re-usable sanitary pads girls mainly from poor families will be able to attend school. She also disclosed that the women will be able to earn an income through selling the re-usable sanitary pads. Hon. Tumusiime indicated that she is taking a lead role in supporting girls with re-usable sanitary pads other than waiting for government which has lots of priorities and is unable to fulfill on the campaign promise.
