Multiple Supporters and party leaders of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) have reportedly sustained injuries following a clash with security operatives during campaigning in Kayunga district.
The injured include among others, Mityana MP Hon Francis Zaake.
According to NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, these were “badly beaten by SFC soldiers”
Hon Zaake was reportedly rushed to hospital in Jinja for treatment.
Through the day, security was heighted in Kayunga town with scores of policemen, UPDF soldiers and amoured vehicles scouring through the streets.
Bobi Wine himself was earlier on Tuesday blocked from traveling to the district to campaign for his party candidate Harriet Nakwede in the District Chairperson by-election.
President Museveni was in the afternoon expected in the district to campaign for the ruling party candidate Andrew Muwonge.
The NRM Party said Museveni will address two scientific meetings at Kayonza Sub-county in Bbaale Constituency and Busaana in Ntenjeru North Constituency where he will address the leaders and guide them on some issues as well as galvanizing support for the party in the forthcoming by-election set for Thursday, 16th December.
The Party National Chairman’s program comes on the back of the vigorous four week campaigns spearheaded by the party leadership including the Secretary General, Rt.Hon Richard Todwong, the Deputy Secretary General, Namayanja Rose Nsereko, Director for Mobilization Hon Rosemary Sseninde Nansubuga, Director for communication, Hon Emmanuel Dombo Lumala and other officials from the Office of the National Chairman.
The campaigns were reinvigorated by the arrival of the Prime Minister, Rt.Hon Robinah Nabbanja who joined other party officials to address a series of scientific meetings meant to canvass support for the NRM flag bearer.
According to the Electoral Commission, today is the final campaigning day for all local council by-elections.
The elections are slated for Thursday.
