State minister for urban development Hon. Rose Mary Najjemba has warned Chinese contractors operating in the country not to do shoddy work in the construction of several roads under the USIMID – World bank partnership.
The minister said on Friday at the ground breaking of the first phase of the USIMID civil works in Entebbe. She noted that several companies had disappointed government and warned the Longjian Road and Bridge Chinese firm to avoid doing shoddy work on the roads that are going to be constructed in the four Entebbe Municipal zones.
The minister warned the Entebbe municipality authorities to seriously monitor and supervise the construction of the four roads namely Fulu Road, Church road, Basudde Rise road and Nyondo Road.
“Government is tired of fake contractors who do shoddy work with no accountability. I appeal to the municipal authorities to monitor the construction of the roads “she warned.
Mayor Kayanja Vincent Depaul revealed that over three billion shillings (Shs 3bn) had been budgeted for the construction of the roads Fulu, church Road, Basudde Rise and Nyondo Road.
The municipality community development officer Douglas Muwonge said that the World Bank has done a great job in uplifting several municipalities in Uganda.
