Kira Road Police is investigating the shooting of Isaac Ogwang, a chef and resident of Mulimira Zone in Kamwokya by a police constable who was on a normal patrol in the area.

According to the statement released by KMP Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire on Friday afternoon, the incident took place today at about 10:30 am in Mulimira Zone.

“A police Constable number 53269 Happy Issa, who was on a normal patrol in the area with his colleagues on patrol vehicle registration number UP 2953, discharged a bullet that injured Ogwang,” Owoyesigire said.

He added that the victim was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital where he succumbed to bullet injury.

“The police have opened an inquiry into what led to the shooting and killing of Ogwang,” the statement reads in part.

Happy Issa, according to the statement, has been arrested for further investigations and is currently detained at Kira Road Police Station.

Meanwhile, Issa has said the shooting was an accident and killing Ogwang was not his intention.

“Constable Happy Issa alleges that he had not done normal firearm safety precautions when he received that rifle in the morning. The bullet had remained in the chamber and it was discharged accidentally,” Owoyesigire said.

“The body of the deceased is at City Mortuary Mulago for a post mortem. We deeply regret the loss of a life and call for calm as investigations continue,” he added.
