Over 288 locals residing in Mpala zone along Entebbe –Kampala highway are
cursing like hell and crying crocodile tears after Uganda National Roads
Authority (UNRA) failing to compensate them for their properties and
structures located along the multimillion Entebbe Express highway road
construction Project. The bitter locals are threatening to demonstrate
after the UNRA Authorities failing to listen to their grievances and
paining issue. And to make matters worse the locals surrendered all their
titles and documents to UNRA after they were convinced that they would be
compensated as soon as possible. Since then nothing has materialized and
their business structures have been made redundant after they were told to
vacate them to pave way for the Entebbe-Express Highway road construction.
The locals through the Kabaale Village LCI Chairman Robert Mukasa have
written several letters to UNRA Boss Allen Kagina complaining about their
delayed compensation however nothing has materialized. The bitter locals
are also spitting venom over the method and criteria UNRA uses to
compensate the locals. This comes after Club X5 Boss Jackson Musoke was
compensated for his X5 Suites located in Kituubulu in Entebbe.
In a meeting that was on Thursday Entebbe Municipality RDC Rose Kirabira
told the locals to be patient and call off the demonstration as UNRA sorts
out their matters. She said that UNRA Boss Allen Kagina is still fighting
tooth and nail to uproot all the wrong elements and corrupt officials in
UNRA who are only interested in cracking deals and not serving the nation.
However the locals revealed that they are fed up with the delayed
compensation and have plan B to go court in addition to rioting. All the
288 locals are demanding for Shs488 billion for their structures.
