The Inter-University football league took another round as Kyambogo managed to edge out Nkumba University on penalties to the storm the finals.
Faizal Muwawu’s 13th minute lone goal managed to put Nkumba on a 1-1 goal aggregate with Kyambogo who had beaten Nkumba 1-0 at Kyambogo Football pitch.
Nkumba University goal Keeper Yiga Joseph cost his side in the penalty shootout. His slippery hands gave Kyambogo University an opportunity to score four resounding penalties. Sharif Ssejjemba, Ssali Najjibu, Joseph Bukenya and Sunday Andrew Tumwine were the penalty scorers.
Nkumba University’s two penalties were scored by Martin Sseruwagi and Byaruhanga Rica. Kyambogo’s Kizito Jean Mary Muganyizi was man of the match thanks to his outstanding performance during the match.
Meanwhile anti-riot police had deployed heavily during the match to quash any riot that would be staged.
Kyambogo will play MUBS or KIU in the finals slated to take place at Namboole on November 8th and entrance will be free. MUBS vs KIU match was abandoned after fans turned rowdy. MUBS was leading 1-0 in the 61st minute when the match was abandoned.
This is the third Edition of the University football League and twelve universities have participated. Some of the universities that have participated in this year’s league include Mbarara University, Uganda Martyrs, Uganda Christian University, Kampala University, MUBS, Ndejje, Gulu University, Kyambogo, Nkumba, Busiitema, KIU and Makerere University.
The university league which commenced in 2012 saw Makerere University crowned champions while in 2013 Kampala University were champions.
