    Kenya wins Inaugural East African Community Shield Golf Tourney.

    After leading Day one with 217 gross, Kenya sailed to victory on day two with 32 strokes to win the inaugural East African Community Shield at the par 71 Entebbe Club after playing a total of 36 holes.

    Returning a total of 438 gross on the first 18 holes and 656 gross on the second 18 holes an average of 10 strokes over three days of action.

    Individual scores for Kenya where (Simwa 73-72-72:217), (Alfred Nandwa, 69-74-73:216), John Karichu (75-75-73:223) while Mohammed Tahir (80-83-81:244).

    Having lost to Uganda in the East African Golf Challenge in September, winning the Inaugural East African Community shield gave Kenya the perfect revenge.

     

    In second position was Team Uganda which ended day two with 688 gross having returned 456 gross on the first 18 holes.

    “We just couldn’t get our game going, the putting was bad and we made so many putts and the greens where running very fast,” Uganda’s Happy Robert stated. “I thought we would have had a better round, but the game didn’t go our way in these last two rounds.”

    Rwanda is third with 731 gross going into the final rouns tomorrow where they will play 18 holes while Burundi trails with 777.

    Amateur category:

    Top Amateur Golfer Kitata Willy returned a total of 221 gross to have a comfortable lead on day two. (Day one score 75, Day two scores 74-72). He registered birdies on hole 6, 12, 15, 17 and 18 in round three second 18 holes while first 18 holes he registered birdie on hole 15.

    “I will keep playing my game with no pressure and I look forward to achieving this victory” Kitata Stated.
