Returning a total of 286 gross, Nelson Simwa captain Team Kenya smiled to victory at the 6th Edition of the Entebbe Golf Open Tourney that was held at the par 71 Lake side Entebbe Club. Playing 18 holes on day one he returned 73 gross, day two 36 holes he returned 72-72 and day three he returned playing 18 holes he returned 69 gross. He registered five birdies on Saturday on holes 1, 2, 11, 14 and 15.
“We played well today and I knew that Uganda couldn’t beat us at Entebbe Club. I had faith we were going to win both the Entebbe Open and the East African Community Shield” Simwa told entebbenews.
“I told my manager that we were going to win this tournament and take the East African Community Golf shield home” a smiling Simwa added.
Uganda’s Kitata Willy returned a total of 287 gross (75,74,72 and 76) to finish as first runner up while Kenya’s Alfred Nandwa was second runner up, he returned 291 gross (69, 74, 73 and 75).
Playing handicap 22 Entebbe club Artisan Golfer Nalutaaya Resty emerged as the overall winner in the Ladies category after returning 39 points, she won on count back.
East African Community Shield Golf Tourney scores.
Team Kenya dominated the inaugural East African Community Shield Golf Tourney after they returned a total of 872 gross in the three day tournament that commenced on Thursday and climaxed on Saturday.
Individual scores for Kenya where (Simwa 73-72-72-69:286), (Alfred Nandwa, 69-74-73-75:291), John Karichu (75-75-73-72:295) while Mohammed Tahir (80-83-81-80:324).
In second position was Team Uganda which returned a total of 903 gross. Team Uganda scores
Ronald Rugumayo (73-73-77-72:295), Muhumuza Adolf (73-79-78-72:302) happy Robert (79-82-77-71:309), Muhenda Lawrence (77-81-80-75:313).
Rwanda returned a total of 958 gross to finish in third position while Burundi trailed in fourth position with 1021 gross
Opio Onito shines at the Entebbe Open Golf Tournament Professional Category.
Jinja based professional Golfer Emmanuel Opio Onito emerged victorious at the 2014 Entebbe Open Golf Professional category. He shot 1 under par 70 in the first 18 of the Lake Side course in Entebbe before firing 5 over par 76 to amass a total of 149. Onito beat other 11 professionals after scoring 149 over 36 holes.
The Jinja based golfer registered 4 birdies (on holes 7 and 14 two times) at the end of the day long action where he scored double boggies on holes 4 and 17. He played alongside his twin brother Ocici, Brian Toolit and Herman Mutaawe.
He thus received a Five million Shillings cash prize (Shs 5m) kitty that had been staked for the professional category.
