    Kalumba says he was on Monday this week accosted by a vile group of NUP supporters in Owino market where he was, together with a small team of colleagues doing KCCA work.

    “They almost killed me; I thought I was going to die,” Kalumba narrated, stilling sounding frail on  phone conversation.

    “When they saw me, they just pounced and started punching and kicking. They were screaming, ‘let’s kill him! Let’s cut him. We are tired of your government; we want you all to go’”

    The KCCA mouthpiece says he was in downtown to engage market traders on KCCA works on city market.

    He says however, he couldn’t make out why these rowdy assailants singled him out.

    He says was saved by police officers from a nearby post who intervened fast and whisked him away.

    “The officers came in very fast even before we got backup from our enforcement. I just heard gunshots and they dragged me out and hid me in the police post.”

    The NUP team was yet to comment on these accusations as our calls to the party spokesman Joel Senyonyi went unanswered.

    As the electioneering season unfolds, President Yoweri Museveni has severally warned opposition parties against employing violence, which he said would be met with severe force.
