The late Kadongo Kamu singer Prince Job Paul Kafeero’s widow, Robinah Namatovu Bisirikirwa, has revealed that the legendary singer took eight years to compose his mega-hit Dipo Nazigala.
In 2007, the Ugandan music industry lost one of its most talented artists, Paul Kafeero. Kafeero’s death left a lasting void in the Kadongo Kamu music genre, which has never been filled.
His music focused more on day-to-day life and edutainment, garnering him a big, loyal fan base. Songs like Walumbe Zaaya, Buladina, Kampala mu Kooti, and Dipo Nazigala topped chats and continue to resonate well with music lovers even today.
In one of her media interviews, Paul Kafeero’s widow delved into the late singer’s life before his death and artistic process. She revealed that most of his songs were based on extensive research, which took him considerable time to craft.
She explained that Kafeero would accumulate stacks of written notes around the house, filled with phrases and ideas he would later weave into his songs.

Recalling the creative journey behind Dipo Nazigala, a song that critiques alcohol, she highlighted how the singer’s reflections and decision to consider quitting alcohol influenced the track.
Unlike some of his contemporaries, such as the late Herman Basudde, who could easily adapt to their surroundings, Kafeero preferred to invest deep thought and time into every composition.

Just last week, artists and fans gathered at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Makindye to hold a memorial mass in honor of Kafeero, marking 18 years since his passing.
