Iranian foreign minister Dr. Mohamed Jawad Zarif has arrived in Uganda on a two day state visit to hold bilateral talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. Dr. Zarif who travelled with are 60 man delegation was welcomed at Entebbe International Airport by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Asuman Kiyingi. He arrived Monday February 2 , 2014 at 2030hrs aboard an Iranian Jet.
“Part of Dr. Zarif’s visit to Uganda is to strengthen Trade, Cultural and technological ties between Uganda and Iran” Kiyingi revealed.
Kiyingi also disclosed that Dr. Zarif will discuss with President Museveni investments in Agriculture, banking, Tourism and power generation. He also revealed that Iran would like to invest in a modern abattoir in additional to building a police hospital and also train Ugandan Soldiers.
“Dr. Zarif has travelled with different heads of department from the Government of Iran who will hold talks with Uganda Investment Authority officials and the private sector on wide ranging investments in Uganda” Kiyingi said.
“We have so many Memorandums of Association (MOUs) with Iran which Dr. Zarif and President Museveni will work upon. Other talks will include investment in the Katonga Agricultural Project and setting up a tractor assembling plant in Uganda” Kiyingi continued.
Upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport Dr. Zarif expressed his gratitude towards the hospitality accorded to him and his delegation.
“I am happy for the hospitality accorded to me and my delegation. I’ll hold talks with President Museveni tomorrow and we shall discuss investments in Agriculture, Technology and combating extremism on the African continent” Dr. Zarif said.
