
In a bid to be at par with counterpart clubs that host their respective Open Golf Tournaments, the Uganda Golf Club leadership committee has initiated the Inaugural Kitante Open which will tee off on Friday and climax on Saturday. The two day tournament according to Uganda Golf Club Competitions secretary Arthur Kiwanuka has attracted a strong field of more than 170 players who are eagerly waiting for the tee off.
“We (Uganda Golf Club) are glad that Golfers have welcomed the Inaugural Kitante Open and cannot wait to tee off on Friday. The registration is still ongoing and we expect more than 170 players from other clubs to participate in the tournament, foreign based Golfers, Lady Golfers, Juniors and seniors (55 and above) are welcome too. The Kitante Open will help us as the Uganda Golf Club to mainly identify and promote budding amateur Golfers”, Kiwanuka said during a press conference that was held at the Uganda Golf Club on Tuesday.
Meanwhile the Uganda Golf Club Captain Joseph Bagabo thanked the various sponsors who have injected funds and offered a range of prizes that will be awarded to the various winners. Bagabo however disclosed that the Professional Golfers will not participate in the Inaugural tournament but quickly added that discussions with the sponsors are still ongoing to give the pros an opportunity.
Airtel has injected Ten million Shillings (Shs10m) into the tournament. The sponsors have offered Prizes including trophies, kitchen appliances and cutlery that will be awarded to winners in the various groups. A grand prize of a Kia Sorento Station Wagon Fuel Guzzler Monster ride courtesy of KIA will be awarded to a golfer who will hit a hole-in-one on hole 11.
