Gen. Katumba has praised the UPDF sports fraternity for keeping the Uganda flag shinning high in Uganda and on the international arena. Gen. Katumba made the remarks during a retirement and promotion ceremony of soldiers held at the Mbuya Military Head Quarters on Wednseday.
He congratulated the UPDF Golf team which recently participated in the 8th Edition of the military Golf Championships held in Bahrain and returned with several medals. “I would like to thank the Golf team for keeping the UPDF flying high both in Uganda and on the International arena” he said.
Lady Champion Flavia Namakula was promoted from the rank of Corporal to Sergeant for her outstanding in the game of Golf.
“Flavia Namakula has represented the UPDF in several golf tournaments in Uganda and abroad and her performance has been outstanding. Some of her achievements include Overall winner Uganda Ladies Open 2014, MTN mug of mugs champion” Gen. Katumba stated.
“It is rare for a General to decorate a corporal but for Namakula i take this opportunity to promote her from corporal to sergeant” he said while he decorated Namakula.
Gen. Katumba also thanked CECAFA Vice President Lawrence Mulindwa for donating a trophy, soccer balls and jerseys to the UPDF football team. “Sports is more than just physical fitness. It gives you the exposure “he stated.
