Mivule Primary School clinched their second title at the second edition of the Entebbe Holiday Football Gala that was held at the Nkumba Play Ground from May 2 – May 3. Mivule beat Bethel primary school 2-0 to clinch their second under 13 title. Geoffrey Lukubaga and Robert Nakabale were on the score sheet for Mivule. Mivule’s third goal was disallowed after Nakabale was caught offside. Bethel’s Godfrey Sekibengo had his well taken free kick hit the bar that would have otherwise earned his side a consolation goal.
Mivule advanced to the finals after beating Bweya Young 5-4 on penalties. The full time score ended in a 1-all draw. Bethel beat Sure Prospects Primary School 9-8 on penalties after 1-all draw.
In the under 16 category 5 stars FC beat Fimbo Sports Club 1-0 to clinch their first title. Bosco Segawa was the goal scorer for Entebbe based 5 stars FC, a match that was abandoned in the 12th minute by Fimbo SC who claimed that Segawa’s goal was offside.
Both Mivule and 5 Stars walked away with a trophy, a set of jerseys and certificates of participation as well as medals. Bethel where awarded certificates of participation and silver medals. Other prizes included footballs and loaves of bread for the other participating teams.
“It has been a good tournament though the refereeing was poor. I appeal to the organizing committee to solve this issue” Mivule Primary school coach Steven Kintu said.
Kintu who has been coaching the young stars for the last three years reveals his passion for nurturing talent and appeals to parents to support their children nurture their talents.
Future prospects who were last year’s champions in the under 16 category didn’t participate in this year’s holiday Gala and according to tournament chairman Shafik Kakooza they didn’t give any reason for not turning up.
“The aim of Entebbe Holiday Football Gala is to search and promote talent in the young generation. The Gala will be running every holiday and I call upon schools and well wishers to embrace the project” Kakooza said.
