Former Democratic Party firebrand Micheal Kakembo Mbwatekamwa has finally eaten the People Power carrot after a lot of pressures from the electorates in Entebbe municipality.
The biggest party brand ambassador has bowed down to pressure after consulting the electorates and party members in his constituency.
It’s now official that the parliamentary hopeful has dumped his party and crossed to People Power camp now National Unity Platform.
Kakembo one of the biggest political brands for the Democratic Party has switched goal posts to People Power to contest for the 2021 scientific elections on the NUP ticket following the in-house squabbles and fighting that have rocked the party.
Kakembo has been forced to ‘dump’ his former party following Bobby wine’s political wave that has screwed-up the Democratic Party with over ten parliamentary members joining him including Betty Nambooze, Medard Sseggona, Joseph Ssewungu Gonzaga, Allan Ssewayana and others
The former banking officer and political aide to the Entebbe mayor Vincent Kayanja Depaul started his political ambitions in the 2013 and made his first political stand in 2016 when he fairly contested with his rival and garnered 8337 votes, coming second to Hon. Rosemary Tumusiime Bikaako that scored 8786 votes.
Kakembo conceded defeat and congratulated the first woman parliamentarian Rose Tumusiime for emerging winner in the parliamentary race which he later contested and opted for a re-run. The re-run was as good as useless after Kakembo losing the court battle with all legal costs and damages bundled on him.
Tumusiime floored twelve other contestants in the parliamentary race including FDC’s Gitta Alex with 2371 votes, Madina Zalwango (1874)votes, Walusimbi Abubaker (1635)votes, Patience Mubangizi (1063) votes ,Charles Kirumira (872) votes, Baleke John Whyte (541) votes, Achilles Kiwanuka (503)votes,Kale Michael (338) votes, Muzoora Amon Reeves(RIP) with(212)votes, Arthur Ssenfuma (214)votes and one Ambrose Kantutu with (135)votes.
Wakiso district returning officer Sarah Bukirwa declared Rosemary Tumusiime Bikaako winner for the Entebbe parliamentary seat after flooring her opponents with four hundred and forty nine votes(449)votes and replaced former area parliamentarian Muhammad Kawuma.
The biggest question remains for the NRM to do it’s home work as the opposition is divided on who could be the parliamentary face following former parliamentary independent candidate Abubaker Walusimbi joining FDC.
