Entebbe Municipality Democratic Party Spokesman Ssali Maggwa has bashed Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago over creating divisions in the party ahead of the 2016 polls. Maggwa urged Lukwago to stop playing blame game and avoid giving excuses to attack Party President Norbert Mao.
“Lukwago has been out of the party for more than four years. He run as an independent on the Suubi ticket in 2011 Mayoral elections. He is now back to disorganize the party giving all sorts of excuses that Mao and his team is incompetent” Maggwa said.
He added: Lukwago doesn’t qualify to participate in the Democratic Party electoral process because he doesn’t hold a party card. If he wants to be re-admitted in the party he should write a letter officially re-admitting him into the party.
He also accused Lukwago of being greedy, envious as well as harboring personal interests to bring Norbert Mao down.
Maggwa lauded Norbert Mao for winning the 2016 party flag bearer ticket adding that his good negotiating skills will be vital in the opposition Democratic Alliance (TDA).
He however indicated that the party will woo Lukwago back into the fold.
“We shall hold reconciliation meetings with Lukwago to sort out the differences because we in the opposition need to be united and focused ahead of the 2016 polls” he stressed.
Meanwhile Norbert Mao has apologized for his scathing comments towards Lukwago and a reconciliation committee headed by veteran politician and former DP President Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere has been chosen to lead the reconciliation talks. A week ago while the Democratic Party held it’s delegates conference at the Katomi Kingdom Hotel in Garuga off Entebbe Road, Lukwago led his faction to Luweero where he addressed a rally. And just last week Lukwago and his faction created a pressure group (Platform for Truth and Justice) and according to him the group will seek admission to join the newly created Democratic Alliance.
