
A crime preventer identified as Philip Musasizi has been jailed 2years for severely beating up his landlord who demanded him rent arrears for two months amounting to Shs 400,000. The convict who is attached to Entebbe police station was convicted by
Entebbe Chief Magistrate Mary Kaitesi Kisakye after he pleaded guilty to brutally caning his Landlord Vincent Saabera whom he accused of over demanding him rent arrears yet he had no money at that time.
In her verdict, the Magistrate also gave the convict an option to pay Shs 1m to court or serve two years in jail. The convict committed the offense on 26, May, 2017 at Mpala zone in Katabi Town council after his landlord demanded him rent arrears for two months.
The magistrate noted that cases of beating up locals by crime preventers are rampant in the country and there is need to curb down the vice before handing the convict a 2year-jail sentence or alternatively pay a fine of Shs1m.
