It was another exciting and action packed Saturday at the Par 71 Entebbe Golf Course as 243 golfers gave their all in the 9th Edition of the Chairman’s Cup and had their eyes on the USD 88,000 worth 4X4 Jeep grand prize that had been staked by tournament sponsors AfriSafe for a lucky golfer who would hit a hole in one on hole 12. After failing in their long quest to walk away with the Jeep, Golfers settled for the various awards courtesy of Afrisafe.
Out of the 216 amateur golfers, Lugazi based golfer Lutajani Kemisi, also a seasoned comedian and Uganda Golf Club’s Angudeyo Wendy emerged winners in the Men’s and ladies category with 40 and 47 stable ford points. Collins Ajidra beat Timothy Okwi on count back to top Group A. Ssubi Kiwanuka and Patrick Kagoro topped Group B and C with 39 and 37 Points stable ford points.
Peace Kabasweka and Rita Akot Apell emerged Group A and B Winners in the Ladies category with 32 and 36 stable ford points respectively.
Phillip Kasozi Wins Pros Category.
Phillip Kasozi emerged winner in the pros category with a total of 148 points after playing a total of 36 holes on Friday and Saturday. Ronnie Bukenya aka Ronnie King and Vincent Byamukama both finished in second position with identical result of 149 points while Fred Wanzala finished in third place with a total of 150 points.
Saidi Mawa finished in fourth place with a total of 151 points. Henry Lujja, George Olayo and Brian Toolit all finished in fifth place with an identical result of 152 points while Denis Anguyo and Deo Akope completed the cut with 153 and 155 points respectively. The top ten pros walked away with a shs10m prize kitty that had been staked by Afrisafe. A total of 27 professionals turned up for the pros category including Ethiopia’s Haile. G who arrived early for the Uganda Open that will tee off on September 9, 2017.
Several Golfers testified to having a rough time on the course and playing disastrous golf because of being restricted to four clubs which the Chairman’s Cup permits.
