Fire yesterday razed property worth millions of shillings at the luxurious Mazike Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The fancy accommodation facility and one of the best in western Uganda is located in the Kyambura Escarpment. Uganda Wildlife Authority says the fire destroyed two cottages, a restaurant, the kitchen and other property. The cause of the fire, according to Bashir Hangi, the UWA Spokesperson, is still being investigated. It however, started shortly after UWA staff carried out a controlled burning in the area. Ugandan novelist Kakwenza Rukirabasaija has revealed evidence to confirm that he was severely tortured while being detained by security operatives. The writer and government critic was arrested and detained on December 28th last year after he made insulting comments on social media about President Museveni and Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Uganda Judicial Officers Association (UJOA), an umbrella body for Judges, Registrars and Magistrates has asked the Uganda Law Society (ULS) to punish Lawyers Hassan Male Mabirizi and Isaac Ssemakadde for their unethical conduct, particularly, attacking Judicial officers on social media. President Yoweri Museveni has removed Maj. General Abel Kandiho from the helm of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). Gen Kandiho is being replaced by Maj Gen James Biriungi.
