Police in Entebbe impounded a Vehicle (Caldina car registration no.UAJ 658J) in a dangerous mechanical condition (DMC) on Thursday morning that was transporting suspected stolen meat from an abattoir in Kalerwe to Entebbe. According to Entebbe District Police Commander Godfrey Ninsiima the vehicle was impounded in the wee hours of Thursday morning transporting close to 800kgs of meat that were to be distributed in several butchers in Entebbe.
“We had been getting reports that a group of people were transporting meat from Kampala to Entebbe in the wee hours of the morning in a dangerous mechanical vehicle. We conducted an operation and finally arrested them in Abaita Ababiiri in the wee hours of Thursday morning” Ninsiima revealed.
Kamugaya Muhammad (29), Hussein Tebadenke (44) and a one Ssembuzi Jamil (26) were arrested and charged with unlawful transportation of animal meat, possession of suspected stolen goods and transportation of meat without vehicle license. According Paul Mulumba the Entebbe Municipality Division A Health Officer the trio violated public Health meat rules.
Police indicated that the vehicle was in bad condition with no clear license and documents and it was to found to be unhygienic with a bad stench. However Mulumba indicated that the meat had been certified and stamped by health officers in Kampala.
“We released the meat to a one Sseninde Samuel who presented the right documents about the meat though we warned him and the rest to get another vehicle that is suitable for meat transportation. I urge all those who transport and distribute meat in Entebbe to get medical fitness certificates because the crackdown is going to continue” Mulumba indicated.
However Sseninde indicated that their business rivals in Entebbe are playing foul games and conniving with police to get them out of business.
