    Hundreds mark 136 years of the Catholic Faith in Uganda amid heavy down pour.

    Archbishop Cyprian Lwanga Kizito urged all Christians to be prayerful and avoid being deceived by fake pastors and preachers.

    Hundreds of Catholics who came from far and near braved the heavy morning down pour to mark the arrival of the first Roman Catholic missionaries Father Simeon Lourdel (Mapeera) and Brother Amans Delmas who introduced the catholic faith in Uganda in 1879.  Every year on February 17, Catholics from all over Uganda throng Kigungu catholic parish Church in Entebbe to mark the arrival of Father Lourdel Mournpel and Brother Amans who landed in Kigungu on February 17, 1879 to spread the catholic faith in Uganda.

    In his sermon Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga urged all Christians to always be prayerful and share the catholic faith with others. Archbishop Lwanga also called on the Catholics to be daring and continuously preach the gospel just like Father Lourdel and Brother Amans who were daring and principled.

    “Be daring and principled like Father Mournpel and Brother Amans who preached God’s love selflessly even through hardship”. Archbishop Lwanga said.

    He also castigated Christians who practice double standards. “Many of you practice double standards, you go to witch doctors and then you also come to church for blessings”. He noted.

    He lauded the missions of Africa, an association of white fathers dedicated to preaching the word of God in Africa. Archbishop Lwanga noted that today Christians are more interested in receiving miracles. “Many Christians today are only interested in receiving miracles and have given up on reading and understanding God’s message in the bible” he noted.

    He also appealed to Christians to be good listeners of the word of God and avoid being deceived by fake preachers and pastors.

    Archbishop Lwanga also emphasized the importance of unity and togetherness in fighting poverty. “We as Christians should unite to eradicate poverty and unemployment” he stressed.

    He concluded by calling upon all Christians to use social media such as Face book, Twitter and you tube to praise and preach God’s word.

    Several high ranking political leaders including Former Democratic Party President John Kawaga Semogerere, Entebbe Municipality Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul, Busiro South MP Bbalikudembe Joseph, Patience Mubangizi, Ssebuliba Christopher, Kakembo Micheal, Wakiso LCV Chairman Matia Bwanika, Former Entebbe Municipality Mayor Kabuye Stephen, Entebbe Municipality Division B Chairman Ssegujja Anthony graced the anniversary celebrations.
