Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has decided to take a leave of absence from the duties of Secretary General of National Resistance Movement (NRM).
In a letter revealed today addressed to the President Yoweri Museveni, Mbabazi says he has taken a break off.
“As you are aware I have been performing the duties of Secretary General of NRM without break for the last nine years, I wish now to take leave of absence from the duty from October 20, 2014 until December 31, 2014,” Mbabazi wrote.
Mbabazi has assigned his Deputy, Hon Dorothy Hyuha to perform the duties of Secretary General until he is back.
At a recent NRM caucus meeting chaired by NRM caucus Chairperson President Yoweri Museveni, he is reported to have called for Mbabazi’s resignation as the party’s secretary general saying he was unfit.
Mbabazi didn’t attend the caucus meeting at State House Entebbe saying he was engaged by the time the caucus was in session.
At the same meeting, Museveni is reported to have said that being the chairman of the party, the constitution empowers him to do many things including duties of the secretary general.
“I have read through the party Constitution and have discovered the chairman has powers to do so many things without the party secretariat.” New Vision quoted Museveni as saying.
