Ugandan goalkeeper Dennis Onyango insists the Cranes can still qualify for next year’s Nations Cup in Morocco despite the 1-0 defeat to Togo on Wednesday.

Uganda fell to Serge Akakpo’s second half goal at Stade de Kegue to go third in Group E standings with four points, two less than Togo and four adrift of leaders Ghana.

The result left Uganda needing to beat Ghana and Guinea in their remaining two matches next month if they are to qualify for the finals for the first time in 37 years.

Quite a challenge but Onyango is not lost on hope. “What next is to fight because now we’ve put ourselves in a difficult situation where every game is a must win,” the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper told supersport.com.

“But we still believe we can win our two remaining games and qualify. We know we are sliding down the table but it’s not how we are right now, it’s how the table will look like when the next two games are played.

“And we believe we can make the top two by the time we finish up the campaign and qualify.”
