Singer Fille Mutoni has opened up about the challenges that came with grappling with chronic drug addiction.
Fille took time to address the attendees of the recent episode of ‘Ekyoto’ championed by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF).
In her confessions, the singer stated that drug abuse affected her relationship with her daughter. She revealed that she stopped being the parent she was supposed to be to the point that she couldn’t even visit her school anymore.
Months back, MC Kats, who acted as Fille’s manager and baby daddy, revealed that she was exposed to drugs (crystal meth and crack) by a friend in 2015.
Since then, she had been battling the addiction that saw her in and out of rehab centers. She was, however, discharged last year and has since lived a sober life.

During her addiction journey, Fille says she had never acknowledged that she had a problem because she thought she had the situation under control. This delayed her recovery process and always pushed her into relapse.
“I started doing drugs in 2015, but I kept performing until I couldn’t anymore. Every time anyone told me that I had a problem, I never accepted it. I always said I had it under control, and I always asked Kats if he had ever seen me acting funny or falling off stage. Most times, we are in denial because we think we have everything under control. A doctor cannot treat a person who has not yet accepted that they are sick. In most cases, doctors come to our aid at the point of need,” she said.
Fille advised all those who are struggling with addiction to acknowledge that they have a problem; only then will they get the help that they need.
“It is a chronic disease. Any person can get a stick of weed, smoke it, and go home like nothing happened. But when it comes to me, I cannot go back from that. I cannot recover; that is when you know that you have a disease. You will find someone who can freely drink whisky and live. But when others take just three bottles of beer, they will be dead drunk. Doctors will only help us after we accept that we have a problem. That is how we will survive,” she said.
