Legendary singer Hajjat Sophie Nantongo has applauded fellow female musicians who are trying to make it in the competitive industry.

According to Sophie, the industry was previously male-dominated, making it hard for female stars to thrive. But luckily, when they started making music back in the day, they fought hard to make it out and set an example for the youngsters.

At this point in her career, the ‘Super Love’ hitmaker can proudly say that she, together with her generation of female stars, paved the way for the fellow female stars, and they can comfortably do music.

“To all the ladies, I want to thank you so much for joining the music industry. For the women here, we fought so hard to see that we penetrate the industry and beat the men. The industry was male-dominated. We did our job and fought so hard.

“I want to encourage my fellow women that you can even do better than me. Because we paved the way for you. Stay focused on what you want to achieve, you can still make it.

“It was a tight race. There is a way you term our music as ‘local; this is okay because for you to be a star, you have to first conquer the local market. Call it what you want but this music is from the heart to the hearts of the people and it will always stay. We invest in a lot of emotions while doing it because we sing for people with hearts,” she said.

Sophie Nantongo made the revelation during her press conference ahead of her highly anticipated concert on May 2, 2025, at the Serena Hotel.
