The 2017 Entebbe Airport Stakeholders football league season started on a perfect note on Thursday at the Airport football ground with 2016 defending champions Fresh Handling taking on Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). CAA proved their worth as Stephen Sserubiri scored the only goal of the match after he converted a penalty in the first half following Aggrey Waiswa’s deliberate hand ball in the 18-yard box. Referee Jamil Sedunga wasted no time in giving Aggrey Waiswa matching orders after his deliberate handball. With only keeper to beat, Stephen Sserubiri squandered another perfect chance to double CAA’s lead after his carelessly taken shot went off target.
Referee Jamil Sedunga cancelled Jonah Rothomio’s goal for Fresh Handling following an off-side trap. Fresh Handling Substitute Bob, failed to put the ball into the back of the net in the second half after his shot hit the wood work. Towering CAA defender Noah Were scooped the man of the match trophy after his fantastic display.

The Entebbe Airport Stakeholders league Chairman Tom Byarugaba thanked both CAA and Fresh Handling for their participation and revealed that the league will start on May 15, 2017 and climax on November 15, 2017.
“I would like to thank both CAA and Fresh Handling for managing to turn up despite the busy Airport working schedule. We have had so many challenges in the organization but I want to assure you all that we shall have a free and fair game. In a very special way I would like to thank our patron Sharon Haris (Protea Hotel General Manager) for supporting us with a trophy worth 1,000 USD (approximately Uganda Shillings 4million). I appeal to all the participating teams to observe discipline during the matches”, Tom Byarugaba stated.

14 teams will participate in the 2017 league including CAA, Fresh Handling, UCIFA, Das, ENHAS, Aviation Police, Inflight, SFC, UPDAF, United Nations, GSL, Protea Hotel and Lake Victoria Hotel.
