On Monday the ruling National Resistance Movement embarked on a journey to regain the Entebbe Municipality constituency that it once controlled. The NRM suffered a massive blow in the 2011 elections when the Democratic Party swept the polls. Only five councilors survived being ‘uprooted’ and they include Rose Tumusiime, Peninah Kasaija, Jimmy Mutabazi, Mondesta Tezitya biiri and Nasamba Rebecca. The top candidate to watch in the NRM Party is Rose Tumusiime who is battling it out with ten other candidates for the Parliamentary seat. After her successful nominations last week on Thursday at the Wakiso District Head Quarters, she held her campaign rally in Kitooro central a constituency where she began her political career as an RCI in 1989. And since 2001 she has represented Nakasamba, Kitasa, Kakeeka and Bugonga ward as an LCIV Councilor.

In her brief remarks she paid tribute to her late husband Edward Tumusiime a veteran politician who passed on in 2014 and promised to serve everyone in Entebbe without discrimination in addition to lobbying for income generating projects for the youth.

“I want to thank all of you for supporting the NRM. I promise to serve you all equally regardless of religion, sex and tribe. I’ll lobby for income generating projects for the youth who are wallowing in poverty and unemployment” she said.

Meanwhile in Kigungu she decried the lack of health facilities in Lwamunyo and Makusa islands and vowed to start mobile clinics in the area to ease the burden on the residents who incur high transport cost traveling to and from the islands seeking medical attention elsewhere. She also pledged to have Buku Road tarmaced.

On the closure of the vete road by government authorities to allow for the expansion of Entebbe Airport, she urged government to create an alternative cheaper route for the residents.

“It is the responsibility of government to create an alternative cheaper route because currently Buku Road is proving to be costly” she stated.

A source in her camp revealed that she has embarked on negotiations with Civil Aviation Authority to create another cheaper route other than Buku Road.

Other NRM Candidates To Look At.

NRM Mayoral Candidate Joseph Ssesanga will face off with incumbent Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul in the 2016 polls. Ssesanga has an uphill task of convincing the electorate more because Kayanja is still a darling to many. Other positions include the LCIII Division B Seat which Sempala Twaha is tussling it out with four other candidates who include current LCV Councilor Sadik Mukasa and Anthony Segujja who are running on the Independent ticket. Others are Stanley Namayirira who is the DP Flag bearer and Peter Othieno the FDC Flag bearer. On the Division A LCIII seat Michael Mutebi is tussling it out with incumbent and DP Flag bearer David Kasule Wasswa ,FDC’s Mesach Bogere and Independent Candidate Joseph Bakahuuna Amooti.  Lukyamuzi Joseph is tussling it out with DP’s Maggwa Ssali for the LCV Councilor Division B seat while Wamala Richard is tussling it out with DP’s Makumbi Francis for the LCV Councilor Division A seat. Kalyebala Sherry is tussling it out with DP’s Nampijja Viola on the LCV Woman councilor Entebbe Municipality. NRM party campaigns resume on December 20 at the Magala Market in division A.
