Mayor Vincent Kayanja DePaul proved to his erstwhile friend turned foe the Honorable Mohammed Kawuma that the Democratic Party in Entebbe Municipality can still move on without him. This follows a successful campaign drive around Entebbe municipality that was held on Tuesday. The campaign drive was held shortly after Democratic Party flag bearers contesting for the various LCIII Positions and the Division chairmen who are representing divisions A &B were successfully nominated at the Entebbe Municipal council. Stanley Namayirira is the division ‘B’ flag bearer while David Wasswa Kasule is the Division ‘A’ flag bearer.
Mayor Kayanja and Hon. Kawuma have been at loggerheads right after the 2011 elections and the two have been in a serious ‘cold war’, accusing each other of all sorts of things. Kawuma eventually broke ranks with Democratic Party leadership in Entebbe and has since joined forces with former Entebbe Airport KLM Airline manager Walusimbi Abubaker who is vying for the Parliamentary seat and Sadik Mukasa the current LCV Chairman Division B Entebbe Munsicipality who is vying for the LCIII Division ‘B’ Chairman’s seat. Both of them are vying for the respective offices on the independent ticket.

The campaign drive has given Mayor Kayanja who also doubles as the Democratic Party vice chairman for Entebbe Municipality and Wakiso District the momentum to prove Hon. Kawuma wrong. Kawuma who isn’t seeking another term, early this year at a community meeting that was held at the Kiwafu play ground vowed to crush Kayanja and his team during the 2016 general elections.
He thought that he was the master planner for the Democratic Party in Entebbe but the campaign drive we held today has showed him that we can survive without him. a DP Supporter told entebbenews.
Mayor Kayanja who was nominated on Monday at the Wakiso District Offices has vowed to deal with the unemployment among the youth through partnering with different development partners who will train the youth in different vocational skills. He has also vowed to tackle the Katabi-Manyango Housing Estates Housing project which has stalled for the last five years.
We have so far performed well in garbage collection, dealt with land grabbing cases and improved on service delivery. We have also introduced solar powered street lighting in a few areas, we hope in the next five years we shall have the whole town lit with street lights. We also want to deal with unemployment in Entebbe through partnering with different developmental agencies who will train the youth in several vocational skills. Kayanja stressed.
Kayanja will face off with NRM Flag bearer and former Entebbe Municipality Division ‘B’ chairman Joseph Ssesanga while Michael Kakembo will face off with veteran NRM Councilor Rose Tumusiime. Stanley Namayirira will face off with NRM’s flag bearer Sempala Twaha.
