A 19 year old pregnant girl identified as Gorretti Nasubunga, a roadside chips vendor near Nkumba University was on Wednesday afternoon discovered dead and dumped in a maize garden a few meters away from her rented apartment in Kasenyi zone, Abaita Ababiri in Katabi Town Council.
The deceased was discovered at around 2pm in the afternoon by a nearby resident who had gone to harvest maize in the garden for his friend and saw some footsteps and the garden in a strange state. The resident who declined to disclose his names revealed that out of curiosity, he decided to follow the footsteps and he discovered the deceased who was mercilessly raped and murdered by goons late in the night. After raping her, the goons thereafter pushed a stick into her private parts.
He notified Abaita Ababiri police Station which immediately swung into action and rushed to the scene. The Abaita OC Station James Kakaana confirmed the gruesome incident and revealed that the body of the deceased was taken to Mulago Hospital as her relatives are being tracked. Kakaana disclosed that investigations and a manhunt for the deadly goons have commenced and the culprits will face the full arm of the law.
One of the colleagues of the deceased identified as Sylvia Kirabo with whom they have been sharing the rented apartment was taken to Abaita Police Station for more questioning over the murder of her colleague.
Other chips vendors who have been working with the deceased revealed that the deceased complained that unidentified persons chased and threatened her on three separate incidences while she was returning to her apartment from work late in the night. The chips vendors revealed that since then the deceased has been requesting for friends and colleagues to escort her back home after work.
The deceased was two months pregnant though her husband identified as Gerald Lwere, a UPDF Soldier operating in Masindi District couldn’t be traced. The deceased who was also popularly known as Harriet by her fellow Chips vendors was described as a humble and quiet girl.
