18 District Police Commanders (DPC’s) were on Tuesday passed out at Kigo Marine Base following Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura’s directive about the need for a special short tactical training course for all police commanders in Kampala Metropolitan Area. This comes after a series of security meetings calling for zero tolerance to illegal activities, unlawful assemblies, demonstrations, processions, notorious drug syndicates around Kampala City and its surroundings.
The officers were taken through theoretical and practical time management, decision making, endurance, honesty, tactical mindset, general discipline and customer care lessons. All these are aimed at finding practical solutions to fighting crime and reducing officers’ operational mistakes that taint the image of the police force. The course is also aimed at improving the connection between the unit commanders and their juniors.
Closing the one week course at Kigo, Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander CP. Mwesigwa emphasized the need to use reasonable force while managing crowds and mob scenes. While addressing the passed out Kampala Metropolitan Commanders, Mwesigwa highlighted the public expectation in terms of conduct, discipline and professionalism of officers. “We are not in any way ready to give a soft landing for individuals who have always been and are still planning to destabilize our areas. Our role is to pacify Kampala and its surroundings”, CP. Mwesigwa said.
