Reports indicate that one of the rangers identified as Sgt Scot Guma was injured in the run-up with elephants.
Reports says that the late Sgt. Guma together with 4 others had responded to a call from locals over elephants escape from Murchison falls National park to the neighborhood.
The rangers tried to scare the elephants for safety and they turned violent against the rangers. Unfortunately one of the rangers was trapped into a shallow ditch.
Sgt. Scot Guma was left injured and helpless before he was being rushed to a near by Anaka town centre for medical attention.
The late Sgt. Guma Scot joined UWA in May 1999 as a private ranger rising through the ranks to Sergeant.
Before his deployment in Murchison Falls National Park, he had worked in East Madi Wildlife Reserve for 10 years.
The UWA Executive Director, Sam Mwandha eulogized the late Sgt. Guma for the big loss to the organization.
