Beach managers have been tasked to find solutions after over 16 people drowned in the lake during the festive season.

All Beach loving funs and revelers will have to find other hangouts and happening spots to usher in and celebrate the New Year slated to take place on Friday. This follows a ban issued by the Wakiso District Resident District Commissioner Ian Kyeyune on all beaches in Entebbe Municipality after over 16 bodies were retrieved from Lake Victoria. The deceased reportedly drowned during the festive season after they partied hard in the waters like the world was ending tomorrow. The deceased ‘chewed’ life at the different beaches in Entebbe during the festive season including spennah, Lido, Aero and sports beach and forgot that they had to usher in 2016. Speaking during a meeting that was held on Tuesday at Spennah Beach to find lasting solutions to the incident, Ian Kyeyune issued a ban on all beach festivities ahead of the New Year celebrations and tasked all the beach operators together with the police force and Municipal council authorities to find lasting solutions to the incident.

It is very sad that lives have been lost and this is a lesson to all of us to be cautious with our lives while at the beach. We have noticed that beach managers find a challenge of removing people from the lake especially when it gets dark. We have therefore agreed that beach operators purchase life jackets as more lasting solutions are instituted. Kyeyune stated.

Kyeyune warned beach operators who will remain adamant and refuse to cooperate with the different authorities over the matter.

Any beach operator who will remain adamant in instituting the different measures that will be agreed on will be dealt with accordingly. Many of the beach operators are only interested in getting money and don’t mind about the lives of their customers so I have issued a ban on all beach festivities until the necessary measures are put in place to prevent such an incident from happening again in future. he stressed.

Kyeyune instituted a committee comprising of police, security personnel and beach managers and will be headed by Deputy RDC Rose Kirabira. The committee will hold another meeting today to agree on the measures.

The meeting was attended by different stake holders including Entebbe International Airport Aviation Police officers, DPC Entebbe Municipality Godfrey Ninsiima, Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul and all beach managers.
