Walimbwa Amis, a UPDF soldier, has been arrested for shooting dead a resident of Kosovo and injuring his fellow UPDF officer.
20-year-old Nizeyimana Zepherene, a resident of Kirwa village is the victim who lost his life in the shooting. The other victim is RA 256798 PTE Achia William, 40. He is an attaché of Kibaya Army detach under 35th Battalion in Kisoro district.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, identified the suspect as RA191534 PTE Walimbwa Amis. He said the army arrested the suspect on Thursday. He is currently under the custody of UPDF at Kibaya Army detach.
Apparently, those involved were at Friends Pub Pool table and lodge at Rukundo Trading centre in Nyarubuye sub county at around 11:30pm. Amis developed a disagreement with the deceased who he shot in the head instantly killing him.
As William tried to rescue the victim, they also shot him in the leg.
The police got notified and visited the crime scene and examined it then took the body to Kisoro hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Maate condemned this act of murder/injuring by shooting. He further said they are doing everything they can to ascertain the cause of the shooting.
