Nkumba University and the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) have signed a transformative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The agreement, inked by Prof. Jude T. Lubega (Vice Chancellor of Nkumba University) and Mrs. Goretti Masadde (CEO of UIBFS), marks a pivotal step in addressing the growing demand for industry-ready professionals in Uganda’s banking and finance sector.

What the Partnership Brings to the Table

This collaboration is rooted in four key pillars:

    • Future-ready training pipelines: Crafting programs that equip students with the skills they need to excel in real-world financial environments.

    • Applied research in finance and banking: Building opportunities to bridge scholarly work and practical industry applications.

    • Community engagement focused on financial inclusion: Moving beyond academics to use financial know-how as a tool for social good.

    • Joint grant pursuits and program visibility: Boosting resources and outreach by collaborating on funding and public awareness.

A standout initiative from the MoU is the launch of a Foundation Certificate in Banking and Finance. Paired with career guidance and internship placements, this program aims to ensure students not only graduate with theoretical knowledge but also step confidently into professional roles.

    Voices Behind the Vision

Mrs. Goretti Masadde shared her excitement at the signing ceremony, emphasizing the partnership’s potential to transform the next generation of professionals:

“This MoU reflects our commitment as UIBFS to not only train but also transform and prepare the next generation of professionals… creating pathways for students to gain practical skills, industry exposure, and professional grounding to make them competitive in the workspace.”

She also tied the collaboration into national ambitions:

“Uganda’s aim to significantly boost its GDP depends on a workforce that’s not just ready to take jobs—but capable of creating new ones.”

Prof. Jude T. Lubega echoed this sentiment, calling the timing of the partnership perfect for addressing the gap between academic theory and workplace readiness:

“This collaboration is a major step in equipping our students with the right skills for the workplace… ensuring our graduates are not only academically excellent but also industry-ready.”

    More Than Just a Partnership

This MoU is about more than just collaboration—it’s a forward-looking pledge. By uniting academia and industry, both institutions are actively investing in Uganda’s future. UIBFS strengthens its role as a strategic partner for academic institutions while Nkumba University amplifies its capacity to produce fully prepared professionals—ready to contribute meaningfully to the financial sector and beyond.
