Police in Kyotera District are investigating a tragic road accident in which a traffic police officer was killed after being knocked by a trailer driven by a turn-man while the main driver was asleep.
According to police reports, the incident occurred along the Kyotera–Masaka highway when the trailer, loaded with goods, veered off the road and hit the officer who was on duty managing traffic. Witnesses said the turn-man took over the steering wheel after the main driver reportedly fell asleep inside the vehicle.
The deceased officer, identified as Corporal Moses Ssenyonga, died on the spot. His body was taken to Kalisizo Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Southern Region Police spokesperson Muhammad Nsubuga confirmed the arrest of both the turn-man and the driver as investigations continue. He condemned the reckless behavior and urged drivers to adhere to road safety regulations.
Authorities have since warned against unqualified individuals taking control of vehicles, saying such negligence continues to claim innocent lives on Ugandan roads.
