The United States, through United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has made a donation of $3.5 million to Uganda for medical oxygen and other supplies.
“Medical oxygen is an essential, life-saving treatment for COVID-19 patients. To make sure that oxygen saves Ugandan lives, the United States through USAID just contributed $3.5M (Shs 12.4Bn) for oxygen and other supplies. The U.S is committed to supporting Uganda’s COVID response.” Natalie Brown, U.S Ambassador to Uganda said.
Amid the crisis, efforts have been registered in improvising oxygen in the country.
Recently, Uganda’s military started producing medical oxygen to bridge supplies in hospitals facing rising cases of Covid-19.
Furthermore, another oxygen plant has been installed at Mulago National Referral Hospital, on top of the four to increase the amount of oxygen that the hospital can supply at the moment.
While the four plants have been producing 2,083 liters of oxygen per minute, the new plant is to produce 70,000 litres per hour.
