Uganda is gearing up for the International Schools Sports Federation Football World Cup in Dalian, China, with four schools set to represent the nation on the international stage.
St. Mary’s College Kisubi and Bukedea Comprehensive School will compete in the boys’ category, while Amus College School will participate in both boys’ and girls’ tournaments.
The official flagging off ceremony took place at Cooper Chimney-Lugogo, with Hon Peter Ogwang, State Minister for Sports Ministry of Education and Sports, leading the event. Emphasizing the importance of discipline, Minister Ogwang urged the delegation to uphold the country’s image on and off the field during their time in Dalian.
Team Uganda, led by captain Kazaire Mark from St. Mary’s College Kisubi, received support from various officials, including Rev. Can. Duncan Mugumya and Patrick Okanya.
The draws held last month in Dalian determined the opponents for each school, setting the stage for thrilling matches ahead.
Reflecting on last year’s performance in Rabat, Morocco, where Uganda clinched a bronze medal in the girls’ category, Team Uganda is determined to excel once again and bring more medals home.
With China and France reigning supreme in the previous edition, expectations are high for Uganda to make a strong showing in the upcoming tournament.
