Entebbe Stages Drivers And Conductors Association Boss, Stephen Kidde is under fire after breaking and defying President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s directive on multi taxation. This follows rowdy taxi drivers and conductors attacking him like bees and exchanging blows in his face in the Entebbe Taxi park on Thursday over flouting the presidential directive on double charging. The president last year banned multiple taxation in several taxi parks in the country including Kampala and Entebbe in his letter dated 17th December 2015 and addressed to the Local Government Minister Adolf Mwesige after meeting the two rival factions namely, Kampala Operational Taxi Stages Association(KOTSA) and Uganda Transport Development Agency (UTRADA) in a meeting that was organized in October 2015 at Entebbe State House. The president ordered the minister to liaise with the Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Directive Jennifer Musisi to harmonize the taxation system. The president said in the letter that it’s unfair and expensive to charge taxi owners while leaving Kampala and, then, charge them again at their destination in the other district. The president indefinitely suspended double taxation which has sparked off a bitter row amongst the taxi drivers and conductors after their bosses arrogantly refused to honor the presidential directive and continued to charge multiple fees from every taxi and passenger van operating around the Kampala region. The president said that double taxation has of recent resulted into terrible fights between the taxi drivers and revenue collectors.(By EntebbeNews)
