The Supreme Court is today Thursday slated to deliver its detail ruling on the request by presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) to withdraw the election petition which he had filed challenging the victory of Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni in the January 2021 presidential elections.
The Supreme Court at the start of this month allowed Bobi Wine to withdraw his petition after he raised questions about the court’s integrity.
The judges however, promised to give a detailed judgement on the matter, including whether or not to grant costs to the petition respondents, who include President Museveni, the Electoral Commission and Government.
The panel of justices in this matter include Aliphonse Owinyi Dollo (Chief Justice), Faith Mwondha, Paul Mugamba, Stella Arachi Amoko, Esther Kisakye, Percy Tuhaise , Ezikiel Muhanguzi, Mike Chibita and Ruby Opiyo Aweri.
Bobi Wine decided to pull out of the court battle, alleging conflict of interest by some justices in the Apex court including the Chief Justice himself.
He also complained of being denied a chance to present some of his credible evidence.
In his application to withdraw, however, Bobi Wine through his lawyers asked the court not to grant costs to the respondents, which could be in billions of shillings.
The lawyers argued that is might discourage other such election petitions in the future.
