St. Johns Church is seeking Shs 1.1 Billion to complete the new Church, this was revealed during the fundraising drive that was held on Sunday. According to Mr. Alex Kakuru, the Chairman Building Committee, the Shs1.1Billion will cater for the following;

Steel windows, Doors, Burglars-proofing and Railing (in Progress) at Shs 76,950,000, Interior Door Frames, Doors and Architraves (in progress) at Shs70,250,000, Electrical Fittings and wiring (in progress) at Shs72,100,000, Audio and Video System (in progress) at Shs50,000,000, Plumbing and Drainage (in progress) at Shs33,700,000, Access Ramp Roof and Finishings (in progress) at Shs12,650,000, Ceiling works at Shs120,000,000, external toilets at Shs37,500,000, plaster works (interior) at Shs117,500,000, floor works at Shs240,000,000, External Wall finishes-face bricks and stone slate skirting at Shs35,000,000, Fencing at Shs252,750,000.

According to George Bush Ochieng, one of the chief fundraisers for the construction of the new Church explained that the other works on the new church such as Glazing, painting, fencing and excavating, landscaping and ground drainage, Drive and walk-away design and paving will be determined in the next phase of budgeting.

Meanwhile, UNRA has offered to grade, pave and tarmac all access roads at the church namely the road leading to the vicarage, School, new Church and parking yard.

Sunday March 31, 2019 marked a historic moment for Engineer Herbert Ngobi (St. Johns Church Head of Laity) and family who together with other St. Johns Church faithful held the very first church service in the new Church. Eng. Herbert Ngobi, an Engineer with CAA who also doubles as the St. Johns Church Head of Laity mobilized his fellow Engineers who contributed money and also made pledges towards the completion of the new Church.

On his part, Rev. Festo Kalungi indicated that all Church services will be held at the new Church and every last Sunday of the month will be dedicated towards fundraising.

“I want to thank Rev. Ssewanyana for the wonderful work he did for building the new Church. Like Moses in the Bible, Rev. Ssewanyana did his part and like Joshua in the Bible who took over from Moses, I should complete the work that Rev. Ssewanyana started”, revealed Rev. Kalungi.
