The leader of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis’ long awaited arrival to the pearl of Africa came to pass after he jetted in at around 4:50pm at Entebbe Old Airport from a two day visit in Kenya where he caused a lot excitement and urged leaders at all levels to abandon dirty vices including corruption and tribalism.
The Man of God was welcomed by His excellence President Yoweri Museveni, first Lady Janet Museveni, the speaker Rt.Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, the Chief justice Bart Katureebe, the Prime Minister the Rt Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda all the security chiefs and others top catholic leaders including his eminence Cardinal Wamala , the Archbishop Church of Uganda Ntagali and over 30 bishops.
Lots of believers lined up along the Road in Entebbe to catch a glimpse of the man of God who has continued to draw attention over his down to earth life style. He was chauffeured in a black tiny audi car with registration number SCV1 to State House Entebbe where he was welcomed by the President Museveni and other high ranking government officers. Several state House fellas including cooks and guards abandoned their daily chores to seek his blessings.
In his brief remarks at State House Entebbe the man of God hailed Uganda for opening it’s doors to refugees and appealed to all Ugandans to properly utilize the natural resources.
“I would like to thank you all for your warm welcome. I would like thank you (Uganda) once again for opening your doors to refugees” he said.
Crowds that had gathered along Entebbe Road were left cursing like hell after they failed to see the pope who was whisked away under tight security at around 7:30pm to Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine. The pontiff was not given time to stop and say hello to the crowd that had camped along the roads from 3pm. Security is still on high alert and will crush any one intending to cause havoc during the Pope’s visit to the land of the martyrs.
The pope will have a host of activities in the country including leading a mass at the Namugongo Martyrs shrine in addition to meeting the youths at Kololo Independence Grounds and thereafter he will depart for Central African Republic on Sunday. South Sudan President Salva Kiir is also in town and has held a closed door meeting with the man of God.
