Security forces in Entebbe Municipality have successfully recovered an illegal firearm and apprehended 16 suspects following a massive intelligence-led operation conducted on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

The coordinated exercise spanned several high-interest areas in Wakiso District, including Wamala, Buzzi, Lutaba, and Ssisa Village. The crackdown specifically targeted gambling hubs and unfinished structures within Hossana Estate and Jomayi Estate, which were reportedly being used as hideouts for criminal elements.

The Recovery of the Illegal Firearm

The operation was triggered by mounting public concern regarding an individual suspected of terrorizing the community with an unlicensed weapon.

According to SP Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, one of the key suspects, identified as Ronald Segujja, led investigators to the location where the pistol was hidden. The firearm has since been secured as a vital exhibit for the upcoming court proceedings.

    Key Highlights of the Operation:

    • Total Arrests: 16 suspects currently in custody.

    • Locations Targeted: Wamala, Buzzi, Lutaba, and Ssisa Village.

    • Key Suspect: Ronald Segujja (linked to the recovered pistol).

    • Lead Agency: Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP).

    Community Intelligence and Public Safety

SP Kawala emphasized that the success of the operation was rooted in community policing and credible intelligence shared by vigilant residents.

“This operation was informed by credible intelligence and community concerns, and it has resulted in the successful recovery of an illegal firearm,” SP Kawala noted.

The recovery is seen as a significant win for Entebbe’s security, particularly in the estates where rapid construction often provides cover for illegal activities.

    Next Steps: Legal Action

All 16 suspects remain in police custody as investigators finalize the case files. They are expected to be produced before the Entebbe Magistrates Court in due course to face charges related to the possession of illegal firearms and other suspected criminal activities.
