As the 2016 political campaigns continue to heat up, party flag bearers in Entebbe who are contesting for various positions from the Mayoral seat to Councilor level have picked Electoral Commission nomination forms. The nomination exercise is expected to commence on November 16 – 20 at Entebbe Municipal council. Some of the flag bearers who have picked nomination forms include NRM’s Joseph Ssesanga who will be tussling it out with incumbent Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul on the mayoral seat. The 2016 elections have also attracted losers in the NRM Party primaries who will run as independents. Some of the losers who are running as independent candidates include Kyeyune Semanda ‘Germany Coach’ who is vying for the Entebbe Municipality Division B LCV Councilor seat, Abdul Mugisha Samad will be vying for Kiwafu West and East LCIV Councilor seat. Current Entebbe Municipality LCIII Division B Chairman Eng. Anthony Segujja will run as an independent candidate. He lost to Stanley Namayirira in the Democratic Party primaries. segujja told entebbenews that he made the decision due to intense pressure from his supporters.

“I made the decision to run as an independent candidate due to intense pressure from my supporters. Democratic Party failed to resolve the underlying issues between myself and flag bearer Namayirira. So far the talks haven’t been fruitful” Seguja said.
Others include DP Kigungu I Councilor Medi Kaiddali who is seeking a second mandate. He has promised to continue sensitizing locals in Kigungu ward on poverty alleviation through saving groups.
“In my second term I’ll continue sensitizing residents in Kigungu on income generating projects such as poultry and piggery” Kaiddali said.
In the past candidates in Entebbe had to travel to Wakiso District town council for nomination.
Candidates from Kyandondo south constituency (Bunamwaya, Masajja and Ndejje), Busiro South (Kasanje, Bussi, Katabi and Ssisa) all picked their EC nomination forms from Entebbe Municipal council.
“I’m glad that at least the system has been decentralized. In the past we had to pick the nomination forms from Wakiso district council but this time round we shall be nominated from Entebbe Municipal council which is nearer compared to Wakiso” Bunamwaya Independent LCIII Candidate Walakira Faizo told entebbenews.
